So, in high school they're all about making you read the "classics". Our latest one wasn't bad, but who decides that these are the greatest works of literature? One of the "great classics" we had to read was Great Expectations. If any book will put you to sleep, it's that one. I didn't like it at all and thought the writing wasn't too great. There were choppy sentences and paragraphs and paragraphs of description about random things, like a basket or something. Why, dear God why? I'm so tired of english class.
Plus, they ask you to analyze every single thing.
"What did Joseph putting his feet in the creek symbolize?"
"That his feet were dirty?"
You just want to shove the book in their face and scream, "WHAT IF THE AUTHOR WAS BEING LITERAL!?!?"
There is not a deeper meaning for everything.
Or is there? Mwahahaha.
PS You know when a doctor is like, "we have to stop the patient's brains from falling out stat!" What does stat mean?
